With the help of 80 Neterion Xframe 10 Gigabit Ethernet adapters, our research partners at Caltech, CERN, SLAC, Fermilab, University of Florida, University of Michigan, KEK Japan, Brazil, Korea, etc. reached a peak throughput of 151 Gbps over a transatlantic network, crushing their own record from last year (101 Gbps). The record data transfer is equivalent to downloading five full DVD movies per second, or serving 10,000 MPEG2 HDTV movies simultaneously!
At SC05, the team also sustained over 100 Gbps of throughput for several hours, resulting in 475 Terabytes of physics data transported across the US and overseas in less than 24 hours! And this year's record was reached using real-life applications (not benchmark utilities), making it all the more significant.
