View the 10 GbE iSCSI SAN Interoperability Demo at AMCC's Booth #663 at Interop

AMCC Demonstrates 10 Gigabit Ethernet Storage Area Networking at Interop Featuring Neterion's Xframe iSCSI Adapters

Demonstration Highlights the End-to-End Interoperability, High Performance and Low Cost Advantages that a 10GbE IP-Based SAN Can Bring to the Enterprise

Las Vegas, NV — May 22, 2007 — Neterion, the industry leader in the 10 Gigabit Ethernet adapter market for server and storage environments, today announced that AMCC has selected Neterion's Xframe® 10 GbE adapters for inclusion in its live 10 GbE iSCSI storage area network (SAN) demonstration at the annual Interop Exposition in Las Vegas, May 20 - 25. The multi-product demonstration highlights the interoperability and performance advantages of an end-to-end IP-based SAN running at 10 Gbp/s speeds.

"We appreciate the fact that AMCC has selected our Xframe iSCSI adapters for this important demonstration featuring the numerous advantages offered by an IP-based 10 GbE storage area network," said Philippe Levy, vice president of marketing for Neterion. "Network administrators are rapidly recognizing the value of a non-proprietary, low latency storage network that can reduce both operational and capex costs, while meeting their performance requirements for storage transport and access applications."

The demonstration emulates a networked storage environment showing RAID 6-protected video streaming across a 10GbE network to a server. The demo consists of a Dell Xeon server equipped with Neterion's Xframe II 10 GbE adapter featuring AMCC's QT2035 10 GbE PHY IC. Xframe II acts as the iSCSI initiator and is connected to Fulcrum's FocalPoint FM2224 24-port 10 Gb Ethernet Switch reference design via an optical connection (using QT2035S SFP+). The opposite side of the switch is connected via an optical cable to a second Neterion Xframe II 10 GbE adapter card on an AMCC PowerPC 440SPe Katamai storage reference platform. The demo also includes, as its primary storage building block, a 12-port AMCC 3ware 9650SE-12ML SATA RAID controller that provides industry leading hardware RAID 6 performance.

"In addition to featuring the interoperability capabilities of each company's products in this demonstration, the 10 GbE storage area network will provide us the opportunity to discuss the cost benefits that result from employing a familiar IP and Ethernet-based infrastructure," stated Gilles Garcia, director of marketing for AMCC. "This is an ideal venue for AMCC to showcase the entire range of its process, transport and storage products in a live, converged network."

"We are pleased to have the opportunity to work with both AMCC and Neterion to demonstrate the maturity and commercial viability of IP-based storage," noted Mike Zeile, vice president of marketing at Fulcrum Microsystems. "One of the appealing factors of Ethernet is its broad applicability. With the addition of low latency and 10Gbps throughput, coupled with the traditional low cost of ownership, there are now compelling reasons for enterprises to migrate to Ethernet for storage transport."

10GE adapters featured in the demo are members of the Neterion Xframe V-NIC™ family of 10 GbE adapters with Hyperframe™ technology that incorporates unique features that optimize the performance of Virtualized Operating Systems such as VMware at the input/output (I/O) level. Hyperframe is an I/O Virtualization (IOV) architecture that expands hardware support to I/O devices, providing end-to-end virtualization for the enterprise data center infrastructure.

Representatives will be on hand to answer visitor questions and to provide additional detail regarding the live demonstration.
