Neterion, Inc. Announces support for its 10GbE Single Root I/O Virtualization products in Linux kernel

The First Standard IOV 10Gigabit Ethernet Adapter for Linux

Cupertino, CA — June 22, 2009 — Neterion, Inc. today announced that its 10GbE products based on the Single Root I/O Virtualization (SR-IOV) specification are supported by Neterion vxge Linux kernel driver. The driver is compatible with Linux SR IOV implementation in 2.6.30 and above kernels.

This will enable customers to run I/O intensive applications in a Virtual Machine (VM) environment without a loss in performance. "We continue our long tradition of innovation by delivering next generation technologies ahead of the competition," said Todd Oseth, President and Chief Executive Officer of Neterion.

Oseth continued, "The fact is, Neterion is the first company in the 10GbE adapter space to deliver standards-based IOV, as well as hardware-level Service Level Agreements (SLAs) through our field proven IOQoS™ (I/O Quality of Service) technology to Linux applications. We can dramatically increase server utilization without sacrificing performance; thereby drastically reducing our customers' capital expenses and power costs".

Neterion's X3110 adapters are the only shipping 10GbE products in the industry that support the SR-IOV standard in existing server environments today.

Each X3100 SR IOV function appears to the Linux networking stack as an independent 10GbE interface, capable of running vxge netdev driver natively - including direct hardware access from, Linux guests in Xen or KVM environments. Using native netdev drivers for running networking and iSCSI traffic from Guest OS recovers most of the I/O virtualization overhead, while preserving major hypervisor features like migration and privileged operations.

Customers in Linux environments are now able to future proof their existing infrastructure investments. More Virtual Machines (VMs) can be run on a single server due to Neterion's ability to free up processor cycles via it's hardware accelerated offload functionality.

Users can now unleash more network bandwidth to the Virtual Machine and move I/O intensive applications from dedicated servers to a virtualized environment. This milestone that has been achieved by Neterion will accelerate virtualization deployments and enable the cloud environment to meet the enterprises' demanding requirements.
