Neterion Signs Silicon Graphics as Initial Customer for its Xframe 10 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter

SGI's Servers and Superclusters, Visual Workstations, Advanced Visualization Systems and Network Attached Storage Products Will Offer Unprecedented Levels of Performance and Scalability

Cupertino, CA — May 24, 2004 — Neterion Inc. (formerly S2io Inc.), an emerging leader in high-speed server and storage I/O solutions, announced that Silicon Graphics (NYSE: SGI) will offer Neterion's Xframe® 10 Gigabit Ethernet adapter on five SGI product families. These products are designed to easily scale to meet the needs of end users that demand high performance in complex data environments. SGI already has customer demand for these servers and workstations with the new 10 Gigabit Ethernet option.

"The interest from SGI customers for Xframe-powered products confirms that 10 Gigabit Ethernet is real and the market demand is expanding," stated Dave Zabrowski, President and CEO of Neterion. "We're delighted to work with SGI to deliver systems that provide record breaking performance and scalability."

SGI's servers with the Xframe option include the SGI Altix® family of servers and superclusters, the SGI Origin® servers and supercomputers, the SGI Onyx® visualization system family, Silicon Graphics Tezro® visual workstations and SGI® InfiniteStorage NAS solutions.

The Altix family of servers offers a standards-based platform that runs on the Linux® operating system and offers up to 4 terabytes of memory. The Origin, Onyx and Tezro systems and the InfiniteStorage NAS solutions feature SGI's UNIX OS-based high performance IRIX® operating system.

Xframe has delivered record-breaking performance in several demonstrations. Neterion was recently recognized by the Internet2® Land Speed Record Group for setting a new speed record for data transmission over a 6,500-mile link between Caltech and CERN in Geneva, Switzerland.*

"After reviewing all options, we determined that Neterion's Xframe 10 Gigabit Ethernet product clearly offers the leading price/performance solution," said Andy Fenselau, director of HPC product marketing at SGI. "Our customers want easily scaleable, high performance networks that allow them to utilize their existing infrastructure and protect their current and future IT investments. Neterion's Xframe is designed to meet those specific market requirements."

"There is growing demand for 10 Gigabit Ethernet applications," noted Jag Bolaria, Senior Analyst at The Linley Group. "This announcement further confirms that 10 Gigabit Ethernet is migrating from university and government labs into enterprise data centers for networked server and storage applications."
