Arroyo, Neterion and Tropic Networks Bring 10GigE Capabilities to Broadband Operators

Interoperability Testing On Neterion and Tropic Networks' Gear Proves Seamless Support for 10GigE Transport; Offers Unparalleled Levels of Speed and Scalability

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (SCTE Cable-Tec Expo) — June 15, 2005 — Arroyo Video Solutions, Inc. today announced that its Arroyo OnDemand solution for "Always ON" video on demand (VOD) has successfully completed separate in-depth interoperability and functionality testing with both Neterion and Tropic Networks, leading providers of industry-standard 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) transport equipment.

Arroyo OnDemand is the only VOD solution available today that supports native 10GigE interfaces, offering unprecedented levels of speed and scalability to meet the ever growing demand for advanced VOD services. Arroyo OnDemand was successfully tested with Neterion's Xframe® 10 Gigabit Ethernet adapters and Tropic Networks' optical transport platform (Tropic Networks' platform is distributed to cable operators by Scientific-Atlanta, Inc., for 10GigE interfaces). The testing was conducted at Arroyo's state-of-the-art facilities in Pleasanton, Calif. and included rigorous lab testing of 1GigE and 10GigE interfaces and interoperability, in preparation for a deployment to a MSO network.

Arroyo OnDemand addresses broadband operators' needs for "Always ON," nonstop VOD services, dramatically increased scalability and operational ease and efficiency. Arroyo OnDemand is based on the Arroyo Video Platform, which drives industry leading performance of up to 5,000 streams from a single 3RU (rack unit), 100% industry-standard server. Arroyo's vice president of technology Dr. John Pickens said, "10GigE is no longer a technology of the future, it's now a widely deployed service and a viable alternative that allows broadband operators to architect solutions vastly richer and more functional than ever seen in the past.

Following Arroyo's announcement of the industry's first native 10GigE interface support, we're proud to team with industry leaders Neterion and Tropic Networks to deliver superior performing and scalable VOD delivery solutions to broadband operators."

Neterion Inc., formerly S2io Inc., is the industry leader in the emerging 10GigE adapter market. Xframe is the first in a series of Neterion's performance-leading adapters for server and storage connectivity. Xframe has many competitive advantages that include: full IPv6 Internet address support, 10GigE speed without "breaking the TCP/IP stack" (maintaining TCP/IP integrity and reliability in all major OSs - HP-UX, AIX, Solaris, Irix, Linux, Windows, etc.), High-Availability (HA) and Reliability-Availability-Serviceability (RAS) features, and carrier-grade environmental characteristics for thermal, noise and power.

Neterion's president & CEO Dave Zabrowski commented, "We are very pleased to team with Arroyo on this solution. The outstanding results of this interoperability testing are another clear example of the high performance and low latency capabilities that 10 Gigabit Ethernet can offer to Arroyo's broadband operator customers. This testing also indicated that Neterion's Xframe family of products can provide additional benefits for advanced VOD environments including the elimination of I/O bottlenecks and dramatically increased response times."

Arroyo OnDemand was also successfully tested with Tropic Networks' metro dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) platform, a high-density optical add-drop multiplexer that delivers DWDM, in both static and reconfigurable variants and supports a wide range of standard interfaces. The platform is integrated with Wavelength Tracker, advanced optical layer management technology, providing wavelength identity path trace, automated power management, sectionalization and fault isolation to the optical layer, greatly simplifying network operations.

"We are enthusiastic about the successful error-free streaming of Arroyo OnDemand over the optical transport network," said Tropic Network's vice president of research and development Shing K. Lee. "With this initiative we are confirming our commitment to our customers to deliver the most advanced and high-speed applications."
